Get To Know Your Orange Man -- #10, K/P Sterling Hofrichter

Getting to know Sterling Hofrichter, who serves as a placekicker and a punter.

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Sterling Hofrichter

Position: Kicker/Punter

Year: Freshman

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 178

Hometown: Varico, Fla.

High School: Armwood

2014 Stats: Hofrichter connected on eight field goals and 61 PATs as a senior at Armwood, while also averaging 40.1 yards per punt.

2015 Projections: It's unlikely Hofrichter sees the field much this season, unless something goes wrong with kicker Cole Murphy or Heisman hopeful punter Riley Dixon.

How'd He Get Here: Hofrichter was offered a scholarship after Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer watched him hit back-to-back 55 yard field goals at a practice in December of 2013.

What'd Recruiting Sites Say: Three stars from Rivals, two from 247.

Money Quote: On his ability to kick, punt and handle kickoffs, via the Daily Orange:

'I really believe I can do all three. I've been doing all three through my whole high school career so hopefully I can have a chance to do all three and start."

Links Of Wonder: Some reading on Hofrichter, and his versatility.

Tweets Of Wonder: Looks like a (presumably friendly) rivalry could brew between Hofrichter and Class of 2016 commits Rex Culpepper and Scoop Bradshaw.

What Does Shafer Think Of Him: From the Daily Orange:

"I think people forget that Sterling Hofrichter is a very, very good punter. And I think a lot's been said about his placekicking ability obviously. But Riley Dixon is done after this year. So I think if you look at it that way, you say you have to have one ready to go when Riley's out. And we happen to have a guy that does both extremely well in Sterling Hofrichter. I think you can figure out that we have to make sure we take care of business, and I didn't want to wait a year when we had one that was really excited about his opportunity."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Despite playing football, Hofrichter comes from a family of swimmers. His sister, Erin, swam at the University of North Florida, while his brother, Jonathan, swims at the University of Tampa.
