Like we mentioned yesterday when Syracuse announced games against Colgate and Cornell, respectively, the Orange still had about three more games to go before the 2015-16 basketball schedule was complete. Well, looks like we have one of them already.
Today, SU shared that they'll be facing the Elon Phoenix on November 21 at the Carrier Dome as the first leg of the Battle 4 Atlantis. From there, they'll head down to the Bahamas to face the Charlotte 49ers and should they win that game, the victor of the Michigan vs. UConn game will await them in the semi-finals.
Syracuse has never faced Elon in basketball, which shouldn't surprise you too much since SU only started playing more Southern non-conference cupcakes in recent seasons (thanks, ACC). Last year, the Phoenix went 15-18 and 6-12 in the Colonial Athletic Association, good for eighth out of 10 squads. Since arriving at Elon for for the 2009-10 season, coach Matt Matheny is 92-100, including two winning records (2012-13 and 2013-14) -- though those were back when the team was in the Southern Conference.
So with that, the latest schedule update, which needs one or two more non-conference games, and obviously the rest of the dates for ACC play:
