Just this morning, we found out that the Cornell Big Red would be coming back to the Carrier Dome again on December 19. Now, another long-time, local Orange opponent is also confirmed: the Colgate Raiders.
As mentioned by Mike Waters over on Syracuse.com, Syracuse's oldest "rival" will be coming to the Carrier Dome on Tuesday, December 8 for
their annual sacrifice the 168th meeting between the two schools on the basketball court. Syracuse and Colgate have faced off every year since 1993, and the Orange have won every meeting since 1963. The last Raider victory came in 1962, a 67-63 win at SU. 'Cuse leads the all-time series between the CNY programs, 122-45.
Last year, the Orange overpowered Colgate for an easy 78-43 win, led by Trevor Cooney's 20 points and Rakeem Christmas's 11 rebounds. Since coach Matt Langel's arrival in 2011-12, Colgate has gone 48-78, including 16-17 last season. The team has improved each year under Langel as he enters his fifth season on the job.
SU probably has about three more opponents to add to the schedule, and all are likely to be home games.
