Get to Know Your Orange Man - No. 64 OT Colin Byrne

Let's take a look at incoming offensive tackle Colin Byrne today.

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Colin Byrne

Position: Offensive Tackle

Year: Freshman

Height: 6-5

Weight: 303

Hometown: Coral Springs, FL

High School: St. Thomas Aquinas

2014 Season: Byrne helped St. Thomas Aquinas to a 15-1 record and the Class 7A Championship as a team captain his senior year. He was also named to the 2014 Sun Sentinal Florida Class 7A All-State Third Team.

2015 Projections: He is currently in the fourth slot on the preseason depth chart at right tackle and is very likely to redshirt.

How'd He Get Here: Byrne had offers from Cincinnati and Indiana, but chose to stick with the Orange after verbally committing in 2014.

What'd Recruiting Sites Say: He received three stars from Scout, ESPN, Rivals, and 24/7.

Money Quote: According to Sam Clausman, when he and Byrne decided to verbally commit on the same day, George MacDonald had this to say:

"I think his exact words were, 'Hang on, I think I just passed out.'," Clausman said.

Syracuse was very focused on looking for offensive linemen at the time.

Links of Wonder: The opportunity for Byrne and St. Thomas Aquinas teammate Sam Clausman to continue to play together was one of the attractive factors for the two to choose SU.

Tweets of Wonder: Uh-oh, Sean, avert your eyes...

What Does the Coaching Staff Think: No recent quotes, but George MacDonald liked him (article above), so there's that.

Interesting Nugget O' Interest: Byrne played for Rocco Casullo, a former S.U. ball boy, and the son of former S.U. assistant Bob Casullo, who still bleeds Orange (as he should!).
