As part of the FanFest activities on Saturday, the Syracuse Orange football team unveiled an updated roster chart. There was one new name on the there...No. 88 wide receiver Clay Austin.
Since we're here, we might as well just turn this into a Get To Know An Orange Man.
Name: Clay Austin
Position: Wide Receiver
Year: Sophomore
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 164
Hometown:
High School: Seton Hall Prep
2013 Stats: As a member of the Syracuse Track & Field team, he was a member of the 4x100-meter team that placed fourth with a time of 40.74 seconds at the ACC championships, ran the 200 meters with a personal best of 22.46 second, the 60 meters with a best of 7.05 seconds and the 300 meters (35.65).
2014 Projections: Austin gives the wide receiver corps a little extra depth. With the Hybrid position sucking away some of the top talent coupled with the loss of Ashton Broyld, it never hurts to have another speedster at the ready. No word on whether or not he'll get a look on kick returns.
How'd He Get Here: Not sure if he came to SU on any kind of scholarship but clearly he's athletic enough to have made it onto two different squads. He may just get that schollie yet.
What'd Recruiting Sites Say: Nothing.
Money Quote: Here's a whole bunch of quotes by Clay, including one about a former Syracuse star he'd like to trade places with.
"I would want to change places with Carmelo Anthony because he is superstar athlete that truly gives back to his community, and has a positive effect on people. Also, his wife is Lala Anthony, my crush."
Links Of Wonder: Check out this one-handed 46-yard touchdown catch he made in high school.
Twitterfeed: Austin appears to have deleted his account.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Back in 2013, Austin told the local paper that his plan was to run track and play football at Syracuse. Well, he did one and now he's doing the other.
