If I told you that a Syracuse Orange kicker on the 2015 roster was named to a preseason award watch list, you probably weren't thinking it would Cole Murphy. The walk-on sophomore was named to the watch list for the Lou Groza Award, annually given to the nation's top kicker.
Make no mistake, this is no "everyone gets a gold star" situation. Murphy is one of only thirty kickers, thanks to his 2014 performance. As a freshman, Cole was 13-of-16 (81.3%) on field goal attempts and made two 50-yard boots.
Murphy also found out that he will become a scholarship player next season. Rejoice, Murphy family.
Now...to the other matter at hand. The Ray Guy Award is handed out to the best punter in the nation each year. They just released their watch list, consisting of twenty-five punters.
Heisman Trophy favorite and American sweetheart Riley Dixon is not one of them.
