Former Syracuse Orange forward Ryan Blackwell will coach the boys varsity basketball team at Liverpool High School starting this fall, as reported by The Post-Standard. Blackwell has been listed as an extra-pay coach on Liverpool's board of education agenda, with his effective start date set for September 1.
Blackwell was set to coach the Syracuse Shockwave last fall, but the team never got up and running. He'll be picking up a Liverpool team coming off an 8-12 record in the 2014-2015 season. The Liverpool boys will be able to gain tutelage from a coach who has played at the highest level of Division I basketball and understands what it's like to play and coach internationally. Blackwell has spent time both playing and coaching in Japan.
Blackwell will start with a salary of $9,205.00.
TNIAAM also recently caught up with Blackwell to discuss the upcoming Syracuse basketball season. Read that transcript here.
