Get To Know Your Orange Man - No. 71 OL Alex Hayes

Let's get to know left guard Alex Hayes because he'll be a starter soon enough...

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Alex Hayes

Position: Offensive Guard

Year: RS Sophomore

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 290

Hometown: Ellenwood, GA

High School: Tucker High School

2013 Stats: He saw action in three games, including earning his first career start vs Duke.

2014 Projections: Hayes should see some increased minutes this season as he's currently No. 2 on the depth chart at Left Guard behind Nick Robinson.

How'd He Get Here: Syracuse was the coldest place on his list. Kidding...sort of. Even though he had offers from Tulane, East Carolina, Central Florida, and Georgia State, Alex "hated the heat."

What'd Recruiting Sites Say: Two stars all around.

Money Quote:

"I’m overwhelmed with joy. The ACC play is a big, a big part in why I am making my decision. Syracuse football has always been known, but it hasn’t ever been talked about in the top (ranks). Everybody talks about the SEC. Well I think with me and the guys coming in, and the guys that are already here, we can make a big impact and take this program to a new horizon."

Links Of Wonder: Scout broke down the footage from Hayes' first start against Duke.

What Does Shafer Think Of Him: Aside from being smart and having good feet...

"Alex is a real smart kid who has a good feel for the game. He’s got good feet. He’s also like an 11 handicap on the golf course – the first O-lineman I’ve ever heard of who can play golf."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: According to Cam Lynch, Hayes' nickname is Honey Turtle thanks to his hair (see below).
