Kevin Rice Leads Syracuse Spring Academic Honors

Senior Kevin Rice was named the 2015 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, but he's not the only Orange athlete receiving academic accolades.

Syracuse Orange student-athletes have recently been recognized for their academic success. Leading the way was Senior Kevin Rice, who was honored by the ACC as their 2015 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Men's Lacrosse. Rice was joined on the All-ACC Academic Team by teammates Dylan Donahue, Jordan Evans, Thomas Grimm, Peter McCartney, Brandon Mullins, and Ben Williams. Rice also became the 2nd Syracuse athlete to earn ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year joining Martin Hehir, who won the award for both Cross-Country and Indoor Track and Field.

Five members of the Syracuse Women's Lacrosse squad were named to the All-ACC Academic Team: Kelsey Richards, Mallory Vehar, Halle Majorana, Taylor Gait, and Kaeli O'Connor.

Riley Johnson and Maddi Doane were the Syracuse Softball All-ACC Academic Team selections for 2015.

The Syracuse Women's Rowing squad placed seven members on the All-ACC Academic Team: Chelsea Frawley, Caroline Habjan, Georgia Hamilton, Amy Ludovici, Deidre Fitzpatrick, Kari Tomeny, and Ailish Tinney.

Track & Field had seven honorees on the All-ACC Academic Team. Shaina Harrison, Margo Malone, and Shalyn Tuite earned honors for the women, and Colin Bennie, Martin Hehir, Reed Kamyszek, and Max Straneva were selected for the men.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career.

Men's Rowing had eight members honored by the Intercollegiate Rowing Association with All-Academic honors. Andrew Festa, Chris Nedlik, Patrick O'Shaughnessy-Hunter, David Conroy,Ryan McCarry, Bryce Vanderberg, Andrew Reichard, and Alexander Will received the recognition for 2015.

To be eligible for such honors, student-athletes must be of sophomore standing, sustained 3.35 cumulative grade point average, and participated in the 2015 IRA Championship Regatta.

Rounding out the academic honors, Syracuse Ice Hockey had fourteen students named to the College Hockey America All-Academic Team.  Nicole Ferrara, Kaillie Goodnough, Akane Hosoyamada, Julie Knerr, Amanda Cariddi, Melissa Piacentini, Nicole Renault,  Lauren Porlier, Elizabeth Scala Jessica Sibley, Emily Costales, Dakota Derrer, Kaylee Druk and Stephanie Grossi.

To qualify for the CHA All-Academic Team, an individual must post a 3.0 grade-point average or higher in all of the academic periods during which her team was actively competing.
