Several former Syracuse Orange players will be in NYC to play in a charity event to raise money for Senegal's SEED (Sports for Education and Economic Development) project later this month.
The event, started last year by former Syracuse walk-on Griffin Hoffman, will feature Rakeem Christmas, C.J. Fair, Donte Greene, Rick Jackson, Scoop Jardine, Kris Joseph, Baye Keita, James Southerland, and Brandon Triche, according to the event's website. Keita, it's worth noting, is a graduate of the SEED program.
Hoffman told syracuse.com that Michael Carter-Williams, Jerami Grant, and Dion Waiters could also make appearances.
Anyone who attends and pays the $70 entree fee will be able to play pick-up with or against the SU players. Fans who want to join together as teams and draft a Syracuse player will need to pay $400.
Hoffman told syracuse.com that he raised more than $10,000 last year, all of which went to kids and basketball players in Senegal. This year, he said, he intends to raise more than $20,000.
"Last year, we did it quickly and more quietly," he told syracuse.com. "This year, word got out more. The guys all saw that we had a nice SU reunion."
The event will be held on June 20 at Chelsea Piers.
