Syracuse Football: Cornerback Wayne Morgan Granted Medical Redshirt, Extra Year of Eligibility

Morgan missed nine games last season.

Syracuse Orange cornerback Wayne Morgan has been granted a medical redshirt and thus an extra year of eligibility after a knee injury forced him to miss nine games in 2014, SU head coach Scott Shafer told CuseNation.com on Thursday.

The cornerback suffered the injury during a September loss to Maryland and missed the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery days later. Because he played in fewer than 30 percent of Syracuse's games, he was eligible for a medical redshirt, which the NCAA granted him.

Morgan, who did not play in SU's spring game on April 4, will enter the 2015 campaign as a redshirt-junior and will likely start alongside Julian Whigman at corner.
