The 2015 Syracuse Orange rowing seasons have concluded. Both the men and women finish the year ranked in the top 20 nationally. The women ended their season ranked 18th in the country, which is the highest ranking for the squad since 2005. The Orange earned a 3rd place finish at The ACC Championship finishing with 73 points behind Virginia (99) and Notre Dame (82). Junior Deidre Fitzpatrick was selected to the All-ACC First-Team and Julia Vander Hoeven was selected by the coaches as the ACC Freshman of the Year.
The 2016 Orange squad will return four of its nine crew members from the Varsity 8 boat which competed at The ACC Championship; Harriet Taylor, Kari Tomeny, Fitzpatrick, and Vander Hoeven (pictured below after accepting her ACC Freshman of the Year Award).
The Syracuse men ended the year as the 19th ranked squad in the US Rowing Collegiate Poll, which marks the 80th consecutive week that the men have been ranked. 19th was also the place where the Varsity 8 boat finished at the IRA Regatta. Head Coach Dave Reischman was pleased with the effort of the team at the final meet and shared his thoughts with Cuse TV. Syracuse will need to replace 4 members of the V8 boat next year (Mike Tobin, Sam Jasper, Patrick O'Shaughnessy-Hunter, and Christian Mund) as the team looks to extend their streak of weeks in the Top 20 rankings.
Good Luck to the graduating Seniors on both Orange Rowing squads!
