Less than 24 hours after releasing his initial list of schools, 2017 5-star Michael Porter Jr. received an offer from the Syracuse Orange. He announced the news via Twitter.
Offer from Syracuse! #Orange
— Michael Porter Jr. (@m1chael_porter) June 15, 2015
The offer comes as no surprise. His interest, however, has a unique twist. Three weeks ago, Porter Jr. hadn't heard from Syracuse, or showed any interest in the Orange. While particpating at the 5th annual Mary Kline Classic in May, Porter Jr. and 2016 commit Matthew Moyer bonded. That bond eventually led to a phone call from Michael to Syracuse Orange assistant coach Gerry McNamara, who reassured SU's interest.
The 5-star forward plays his AAU ball for MOKAN Elite (KS). Through 14 games played, he's averaging 17.4 points and 7.0 rebounds. MOKAN is currently 12-5 and qualified for Peach Jam.
He is rated as the No. 2 overall player in the class, according to ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals. Scout has the 6-foot-9 forward as the No. 3 overall player.
