As of Thursday, the 2016 Syracuse Orange football non-conference schedule was complete.
Saturday, September 3: vs. Colgate Raiders
Saturday, September 17: vs. South Florida Bulls
Saturday, September 24: at Connecticut Huskies
Saturday, October 1: vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (MetLife)
It's actually a pretty decent schedule for Syracuse. Notre Dame is the big fish, and they'll certainly be expected to beat us, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for an upset. Colgate, USF and UConn are all winnable games. We'd probably like to trade UConn for a more recruiting-friendly opponent, but, beggars can't be choosers.
So what about 2017? How's that looking?
So far, we know the season will be highlighted by a trip to Death Valley to take on the LSU Tigers, something their AD isn't shy about calling a loss for us (or anyone who goes there). We also have the third and final game in the Central Michigan series in the Carrier Dome.
That leaves two open slots. The USF series ends the year before and the UConn return game is in 2018. So who takes their place? Who makes sense from an opponent and recruiting opportunity standpoint? AAC teams? MAC teams? A mix?
