There's been more than a few Syracuse Orange fans saying "Good luck in the D-League" to Chris McCullough ever since he announced he was going pro. If yesterday is any indication, it's not the place where basketball careers go to die after all.
First up, Arinze Onuaku. The former Orange center has bounced around between the D-League and NBA for a couple years now and he's getting another shot at the big show in the form of a ten-day contract with the dreaded Minnesota Timberwolves. Normally, the news that any former SU player was headed to Minnesota would send shivers down my spine (See: Flynn, Jonny; Johnson, Wes). But, with all of the injuries they're dealing with, the Wolves could actually put AO to good use. If he keeps up the kind of play that got him 17.5 PPG and 7.8 RPG for the Canton Charge, he should turn that contract into a longer stay.
AO saw action right off the bat last night in a 116-111 loss to the Sacramento Kings. He scored six points and grabbed five boards in 16 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, we turn to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (as one does) to find out that C.J. Fair had himself one fine evening in a 104-103 playoff victory over the Maine Red Claws (R.I.P. Fab Melo). Fair scored 28 points and made a huge block with seconds remaining in overtime to secure the win. This comes after Fair was named Performer of the Week in the D-League after averaging 26.5 PPG in a two-game series.
He also gave us this I Dare You Not To Photoshop And/Or Caption This moment.
