Friday Night Lights: Syracuse vs. Rhode Island Moved to Friday, September 4

Syracuse will open the season on a Friday night for the second consecutive season.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 5, the Syracuse Orange football opener against the Rhode Island Rams is now a Friday Night season-opener.

Kickoff is now set for 7:00 p.m. The benefits of the move is that it gives the game a chance to be in front of more eyeballs on The ACC Network. Also, it means an extra day for Syracuse to prepare for their ACC opener against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons the following weekend.

Syracuse is turning Friday Night Season Openers vs. FCS Schools into something of a tradition. The Orange kicked off last season at home on a Friday night against the Villanova Wildcats, a game they won in double overtime. I know Scott Shafer promised that we would never speak of that game again, but, that was the last time. Promise.
