When 4-star RB Robert Washington committed to the Syracuse Orange on Saturday, many fans were excited not just to see him play, but to see what other major talents he could bring with him to the hill.
The recruiting job Robert has taken on is already becoming prevalent, with the recruiting of his youth teammates ATH Moe Neal and DT Christian Colon picking up. The Orange are also moving on to some bigger fish as the Orange recently offered 2016 4-star cornerback Jared Mayden, who is Washington's teammate on Team USA Football, as well as his brother 2018 QB Jalen, both of whom play for Sachse High School in Texas. Jared stands at 6-foot-1 190 pounds and has a verified 4.36 40-yard-dash. Mayden has already said that he wants to visit the Syracuse campus.
This is not the first USA teammate of Robert to be offered as part of this recruiting effort, as Syracuse has recently started to gain ground with 2016 QB Dwayne Haskins, who they had offered previously but believed they had not shot at until Robert's commitment. According to Robert, the trio of he, Mayden, and Haskins have talked about playing together in college, but only if the school is the right fit for all three.
"It's definitely possible," Mayden said. "We've been talking about playing with each other, but we also understand that it comes with the right fit. Dwayne wants to go to a place where they're going to throw the football, of course, and I want to go to a defense that's going to fit my strong suits."
As Stephen Bailey discussed, Chuck Bullough's defensive scheme , which features heavy blitzing and heavy use of the Okie package, fits perfectly with Mayden's aggresive style of play.
