Syracuse Football Recruiting: 2016 QB Target Jamie Newman Commits to Wake Forest

The 2016 QB out of North Carolina announced his commitment to the Deacons yesterday morning.

On Monday morning, 2016 QB Jamie Newman of North Carolina announced his commitment to Wake Forest through his Twitter account.

The quarterback received a lot of hype after he received an offer from the Orange last week due to his massive size (6'4" 231 lbs) to accompany some solid speed (ran a 4.7 40-yard dash). It also appeared that he was very high on the Orange at the time of the offer. However high that interest may have been though, it wasn't enough to drag him very far from home.

While Newman is now off the board, the long presumed top target for Syracuse, QB Anthony Brown of New Jersey, is still on the board. He released a list of his top five schools yesterday morning -- one that included Syracuse along with Wake Forest (who may have a problem maintaining interest with Newman now committed), Temple, Northwestern (known to be his earliest suitor) and Boston College.

Bummer to see Newman head elsewhere... especially a divisional foe. But now we can wait on Brown to see where/when he decides to commit. Will he be suiting up for the Oranges, Top Hats, Wizard Paws, Red Diamonds or Cherries? Hopefully we start to get answers by this fall.
