Spring weather in Syracuse means many things (including the random appearance of #inflatablejumpers on the Quad), but for the Syracuse Orange rowing squads it means the ability to get out and practice on the water. Team members will tell you that it's difficult to prepare for competition when training indoors, so the nice weather certainly helps as the season progresses. Orange coaches are looking for improvements as they head into this weekend's competition.

The Syracuse women head down to South Carolina for the Clemson Invitational. This is the site of this year's ACC Championship and the competition will be tough as 9 teams who finished in the top 20 last year are expected to compete.  One of the women the Orange will be looking for to lead them is former walk-on Amy Ludovici, who has gone from walk-on to the Varsity 8 boat. Here's Orange Head Coach Justin Moore's preview of this weekend's race

The 13th ranked men's team will be (hopefully) home this weekend as they will face off against 9th ranked Cornell and 12th ranked Navy for The Goes Trophy. We assume the weather conditions will allow the Orange to host as scheduled with races beginning at 8 am at the Onondaga Lake Boathouse.

Like a lot of rivalry games in college football, The Goes Trophy carries a lot of history, especially to those who are competing for it each year.  Cornell is the defending champion, but Navy holds the All-Time lead with 25 wins to 22 wins for Cornell and 11 wins for Syracuse. The Orange last won in 2011, and will be looking for Senior coxswain Christian Mund to lead the Varsity 8 boat to a victory. Following the race, Syracuse will dedicate new boats in honor of Rob and Sue Edson. Here's Head Coach Dave Reischman's preview:
