To say the 2014-2015 season is one Syracuse Orange fans would like to forget might be an understatement. Injuries robbed the team of two critical components. A dip in talent meant a year of rebuilding and missed opportunities. The self-imposed post-season ban ruined any March hopes. And then there's the NCAA sanctions that are coming to cripple the program. Rakeem Christmas aside, there hasn't been much to cheer for.
Before it all ends, the Orange will play one more time when they take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack today at noon. The game will be televised on CBS and you should probably stick around for the Jim Boeheim press conference afterward.
The Orange leads the overall series with NC State, 5-2. Since Syracuse joined the ACC a year ago, the series is knotted at 1-1.
The Wolfpack feature guards Trevor Lacey (16.0 ppg.), Ralston Turner (13.2 ppg.) and Anthony Barber (11.8 ppg.). Forward Lennard Freeman (3.1 ppg., 5.6 rpg.) leads the team in rebound average. Forward BeeJay Anya is contributing 2.7 blocks per game.
For the Orange, Christmas will play in his 142nd game, tied for sixth in program history. Meanwhile, Trevor Cooney is in ninth place on the Orange's all-time three-point field goals made list hoping to up that ante.
Get ready to hear a lot of discussion about the sanctions and Boeheim and all that fun stuff. Otherwise, leave your pre-, in- and post-game comments below.
G'ORANGE!
