The Syracuse Orange took care of Penn State 2-0 on Friday evening to earn a trip to the CHA Championship Game. SU will face RIT in Saturday afternoon's title game, with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. A win would give Syracuse the first NCAA bid in program history.
Jenn Gilligan earned the shutout stopping all 11 shots she faced from the Nittany Lions. Senior Allie LaCombe provided all the offense the Orange would need with a 1st-period short-handed goal. It was the first SH goal of the season for Syracuse and fellow Senior Kaillie Goodnough added the insurance with a 3rd-period power play goal.
Syracuse and RIT split the four-game season series, but one of RIT's wins came in the final regular season game, which was Amanda Carridi's only career start. RIT earned their spot in Saturday's win with a 4-1 upset victory over top seeded Mercyhurst. The 6th-seeded Tigers have scored two upsets to make the final game and Syracuse will be looking to end their run and move on.
