Apparently, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons women's basketball team was sick and tired of all this #OrangeEagle Trophy talk. So not only did they dispatch with the Boston College Eagles in the first round of the 2015 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament, but they then upset the 5-seed Syracuse Orange squad as well.
Despite a 13-19 record headed into the tourney, Wake is on to the third round after upsetting the No. 22 Orange, 85-79.
Alexis Peterson did what she could, scoring a career-high 34 points, including eleven points in the final 4:07 of the game, but a 9-0 run by the Deacs that began with around seven minutes to go made the lead insurmountable.
The disappointing loss means SU won't have a chance to jockey for better NCAA Tournament seeding and casts doubts on SU's chances to move further than previous years once they get there. Still, with some predicting a 5- or 6-seed for the Orange, anything's possible.
You've still got time to get on the WBB bandwagon, find out how. And meet back here on Monday, March 16 when the NCAA Women's Tournament brackets are announced.
