Syracuse Lacrosse: Another Day, Another Award

Kevin Rice was nominated for the Senior Class Award on Wednesday. The Syracuse senior is already a nominee for the Tewaaraton Trophy and leads the Orange in points. The list is limited to 20 players but will be whittled down to ten later in the season and fan voting will begin.

Kevin Rice was named as a Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee last week. Tuesday he earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week. Wednesday he was nominated for the Senior Class Award. I'm sure Thursday he'll pick up a Nobel Price, because why not?

"To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition."

The Award is presented to one senior at the division I level in each sport. The complete list of players nominated for lacrosse can be found here.

Only two other ACC schools had players nominated: Virginia Cavaliers' Ryan Tucker and North Carolina Tar HeelsJoey Sankey.

Rice was named to the 2014 ACC All-Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll, 2013 Big East All-Academic Team and the 2012 Big East All-Academic Team. He has nine goals and 10 assists through four games this season.

Later in the season the list of twenty nominees will be narrowed down to ten players and voting will begin. Mike Leveille won the Award back in 2008. More recently Chris Makowski of the men's soccer team was nominated this past fall and CJ Fair made the list of ten finalists for the 2013-14 season.

The Syracuse Orange will take on the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday at 1 pm in Georgia.
