Happy 145th National Orange Day (and Otto's 25th Birthday)

Today is the 145th National Orange Day, aka the day Syracuse University was founded. It is also the 25th birthday of our mascot, Otto the Orange. How can you celebrate? With Orange of course!

Happy National Orange Day! This is the day every year that Syracuse University celebrates its birthday and this is the 145th edition. Across campus, events are taking place from the Fast Forward competition to philanthropy drives and community service by local alumni chapters.

But because this blog Honors their Contracts and #Sticks2Sports, it's Otto the Orange's 25th birthday!

Otto was officially recognized by Syracuse as the official mascot in 1995, but the non-gender orange started making appearances on SU's five years earlier. Regardless of when he appeared, he was always a hit among students for being... well... different.

In celebration of this big birthday, Syracuse University news sat down with Otto, birthday cake and giants cards are available for students, faculty, staff and fans in the Schine Student Center, and Otto has been making the rounds around campus.

If you'd like to wish Otto a happy birthday, tweet using #CelebrateSU and tag @TheOttoOrange. Check out some of the birthday wishes that have already rolled in!

Happy birthday, Otto!
