The 8-seed Syracuse Orange (22-9) hope to accomplish two things by beating the 1-seed South Carolina Gamecocks (31-2) today in the 2015 NCAA Women's Tournament Round of 32.
1. They'll get some payback for a November loss to the then-No. 1 Gamecocks in which they led until the very end.
2. They'll advance past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever.
So, yeah, it's a pretty big game.
You can watch SU try to make some history at 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.
It'll be no small task. The only teams South Carolina has lost to all season are defending champion UConn and fellow powerhouse Kentucky. Still, it's an opportunity that's been on the mind of the Orange all year long.
"I think that’s a redemption thing," sophomore center Briana Day said. "We lost to them by only four."
"That’s why you do this," Hillsman said. "You coach to compete. If you don’t have that in you, then you shouldn’t be in this sport."
The Orange won a nail-biter over Nebraska in the first round to get here. It was the second NCAA win in school history.
