First off, if you haven't checked out Brian Tahmosh's conversation with Paul Carcaterra on Syracuse you can find it here.
Inside Lacrosse reported Wednesday that senior Syracuse Orange attackman Randy Staats is not practicing.
"As of Wednesday, senior attackman Randy Staats had not been practiced with Syracuse this week, a source close to the program said. Staats was wearing a knee sleeve against Johns Hopkins. Staats suffered two significant knee injuries before arriving at Syracuse. He had 33 goals and 22 assists last season for the Orange, playing in 14 of their 16 games. So far this year, Staats has 15 goals and 11 assists."
Staats is a major part of the best attack line in the country. Through just six games the senior has equaled his goals scored total from 2014 and is one assist short of last year's total. Staats has tremendous box lacrosse skills that make him Syracuse's best threat on the crease and is coming off of a four-goal performance against Hopkins. In two games against the Duke Blue Devils last year Staats totaled three goals and two assists. If he cannot play against Duke this year it will be a huge blow to the Orange.
As for who could replace Staats at attack, I would think that Tim Barber would be the top choice, but Jordan Evans and JT Forkin are also options.
The Orange will host the Duke Blue Devils on Sunday at 12:30 pm. The game can be seen on ESPNU and heard on WTKW 99.5 FM. Of course you can also follow me @Orangelax for updates throughout the game.
