National Signing Day: Ty Cross Crosses Off Wake, Chooses Orange

The Georgia defensive lineman was the 21st verbal in the class.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange went after defensive linemen hard for 2015 and you can put Ty Cross in that mix as well. The Georgia DT was a bit of an unknown when he gave his verbal but we've since seen his stock grow. Wake Forest made a strong push and Cross ultimately chose to stick with us instead of playing for them. Looks like everyone made the right decision.

Ben's Breakdown:

When Cross committed back in July, it took almost an hour to decipher who Eric White was referring to when he tweeted out his signature "BOOM". The next reaction was "who in the world is Ty Cross"? It became quite obvious, though, despite his lack of a profile on the big recruiting sites, Cross could play football, and he could play it well. His pad level for a high schooler was excellent, as he was an unmovable object.

Cross is still "undersized" for a defensive tackle, but plays the game like he isn't. If he can add on a few more pounds of good weight through a college S&C program and diet, Cross could be an animal at the defensive tackle position for years to come. While I don't see him stepping in and getting a lot of playing time this season, a redshirt might help him get his body in order to come out swinging in 2016.
