Syracuse Football: Former DT Jalen Harvey Signing With Chattanooga

Not "big" news -- just worth mentioning.

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

As we've discussed a ton, the Syracuse Orange's defensive line depth and experience is somewhat of a concern. And while former two-star defensive tackle Jalen Harvey left the program over a year ago, it doesn't mean his absence has gone unnoticed. Which makes it even more tough to see the one-time SU redshirt sign with the FCS Chattanooga Mocs.

Syracuse.com pointed out the news this morning, as Harvey informed the local Times Free Press of his decision. Said Harvey:

"... I wanted to play for a team that wanted me and needed me. Plus it's only two hours away from the house so that made it even better."

Can't really compete with that if you're Syracuse, and those notes may have been a big part of Harvey's initial departure.

After he left the Orange, Harvey headed to Northwest Mississippi Junior College, racking up 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks during a JUCO championship season in 2015. Come signing day in February, he'll (likely, barring a decision change on his part) join a successful Mocs team coming off a 9-4 season.
