When this morning started, we thought (some, begrudgingly) that Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash was the clubhouse favorite to be the next coach of the Syracuse Orange football team.
Now, it looks like we have a new frontrunner: Bowling Green head coach Dino Babers.
Check it out below, as USA Today's Dan Wolken details the situation as it currently stands:
Breaking: Chris Ash has pulled out of the Syracuse search, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Clears way for Dino Babers

On Syracuse: Unless there’s a mystery candidate it was down to Ash and Babers. Ash has pulled out. But Babers has a game to play this wknd

We were all pretty psyched about the prospect of Babers for one reason or another, and if Wolken's correct, there's good reason to assume he could be the next SU coach by the time the weekend wraps up. Of course, there could always be a "mystery candidate" and these things do change at a moment's notice. But nonetheless, good to see some positive momentum and news after yesterdays' group panic/therapy session.
Of course, Bowling Green still has that pesky MAC Championship Game to play in, so we still have some time to wait here if it is, indeed, Babers. In the meantime, rejoice in the jokes that may be to come.
