It's only been two days but the Syracuse Orange Coaching Search Sexy-O-Meter has already change dramatically. Such is the coaching search world we live in.
1. Chris Ash (co-OC, Ohio State) - Ash wasn't even on the list on Monday and now there are rumors abound that he's a "strong candidate." Brisly Estime even said Ash was the guy on Twitter (although it looks like he was joking/guessing).
2. Dino Babers (HC, Bowling Green) - Babers was initially-linked to the UCF job that Scott Frost ended up taking. So since Frost was linked to Syracuse first, does that mean Babers will flip over to us? Who the hell knows. He's made it clear he's sticking around for BG's MAC Championship game, at least.
3. Ed Orgeron (DL - LSU) - Look, until somebody tells me he's not in the running, he's in the running. He's DACOACHO!
4. Mike Sanford (OC, Notre Dame) - Sanford told recruits that he's not leaving but what does that mean? Doug Marrone said the same thing and then bolted. That's just coach-speak for a guy still employed by Notre Dame in a business where everything changes daily.
5. Matt Rhule (HC, Temple) - The Temple coach turned down the Missouri job but a lot of Orange fans have started to look in his direction. Temple may lock him down this weekend, however.
6. Dave Warner (co-OC, Michigan State) - Warner seems to have been picking up steam slowly in the last few days. He's one of the overseers of what could be a Playoff-bound offense and he's a Syracuse guy (QB and assistant coach in 70's and 80's). He's probably focused on the Big Ten title game but after that???
7. Phillip Montgomery (HC, Tulsa) - The Texan has caught the eye of a few programs but he's not one of the trendy picks. Once the dust settles on them, he might become a hotter prospect. He was Baylor's OC before this season. You like Baylor's offense, don't you?
8. Joe Moglia (HC, Coastal Carolina) - Moglia continues to be one of those candidates that everyone either really likes or really hates.
9. D.J. Durkin (DC, Michigan) - Durkin remains a pretty hot prospect in general so he may be out of Syracuse's league, at least for now.
10. Mike Bloomgren (OC, Stanford) - Even though the Florida native's name came up in Thamel's report, we haven't heard much since.
Others Receiving Votes: Joe Moorhead (Fordham HC), Teryl Austin (Lions DC), Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma OC), Jeff Stoutland (Eagles OL), Ed Warinner (OSU co-OC), Randy Edsall (former Maryland HC), P.J. Fleck (WMU HC), Bob Diaco (UConn HC).
