Syracuse Football Recruiting: ATH Carl Jones Commits to Orange After Visit

SU's new staff has been VERY busy of late.

Yesterday, we thought the Syracuse Orange were done for the day after adding a commitment from offensive guard Liam O'Sullivan. Ends up that wasn't the case. Syracuse's staff added yet another recruit late Monday in athlete Carl Jones.

Jones, who's from Lakewood's St. Edward High School in Ohio, visited this past weekend along with a host of other new and old targets. While he's currently unrated by recruiting services, that should change pretty soon. Hes projected as a cornerback, which is even more welcome news after one-time CB target Cycoby Burch committed to UMass yesterday. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Jones apparently runs a 4.5-second 40 time and held additional offers from Army and Air Force.

As Scout's Mike McAllister shares, he's also a former teammate of freshman SU linebacker Troy Henderson. This also might be the first time (correct me if I'm wrong) we've officially heard Syracuse's new defense referred to as a "Tampa-2."

Jones is the third defensive back in the class of 2016 class, joining Scoop Bradshaw and Monquavion Brinson. He's the 12th and latest member of the class, which has rebounded nicely after losing several recruits to the coaching change. While most of the 2016 class has come from the "typical" areas SU recruits from, Jones does add the ninth different state (Ohio) to a pretty diverse group thus far.

Some video on Jones for you below. Plus another Drake gif from Sean Lewis, because that's the thing now, whether you like it or not.
