Syracuse Men's Lacrosse: Orange Voted Third in ACC Preseason Coaches Poll

... which is not a bad thing at all in the gauntlet of the ACC.

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The preseason coaches poll has been released for ACC men's lacrosse, and your Syracuse Orange were voted third in the five-team league. SU was tied with Virginia, gaining 13 total votes. Notre Dame -- which made last year's Final Four -- was first with 25 votes. Duke finished second with 15. North Carolina had nine votes in the fifth spot.

It's a testament to the year-in and year-out strength of the conference, as all five have national title aspirations and could end up finishing first.

Syracuse also saw three players named to the preseason All-ACC squad. Redshirt senior Dylan Donahue got the nod at attack, and fellow redshirt senior Brandon Mullins was picked as a defenseman. Junior Ben Williams was the All-ACC team's top faceoff specialist, something that would've stunned most Orange fans just a couple seasons ago when the team struggled mightily from the dot (and ultimately saw that as its undoing in the national final against Duke).

While this is coming out in December, we've still got another month and a half or so until the Orange begin their season. Syracuse has not won a national championship now since 2009, the longest drought for the program since 1971-1983, when the NCAA first started awarding men's lacrosse titles.
