The No. 1 Syracuse Orange field hockey squad is going back to the National Championship game. SU took control early on Friday and never relented, topping the previously-undefeated Connecticut Huskies 3-1 and ending their reign as defending national champs.
The Orange were on the board just two minutes in thanks to Alma Fenne, who scored her 17th-goal of the season. At the twenty-minute mark, Emma Russell made it 2-0, a lead SU took into the half. UConn was able to get on the board and cut the lead to one but Alma Fenne's second goal of the day at the 60 minute mark sealed the deal.
SU now awaits the winner of the North Carolina - Duke semifinal to see who they'll play in the National Title game on Sunday, November 22. The Orange might want to see UNC if only to avenge their only loss on the year so far, which came in the ACC Title game.
Either way, the National Championship will be an ACC affair. Hopefully for the Orange, it'll be an affair to remember.
