Syracuse Basketball: Is Tyler Lydon The Answer For Third-String Center?

We expected one of the forwards to see some time at center this season. We weren't sure it would be this one.

A while back, we tried to make a case for Tyler Roberson as the answer as to who backs up Dajuan Coleman and Chinonso Obokoh at the center spot. It's a question we might not know the answer to until the team starts playing but we were presented with a new possibility on Wednesday: Freshman Tyler Lydon.

Chris Carlson (via Ben Sigel) reported that Lydon is participating in center drills in practice. At 6'9", Tyler has to be considered a longshot to see significant time at the position but the chances that he or someone else will be needed are high when you consider the possibility of Coleman getting into foul trouble and/or injured. Whether it's Lydon, Roberson or someone else, expect to see some unique looks at the 5 this year.

Driving the dagger into our hearts a little more, early word is that 7'2" transfer Paschal Chukwu has looked good in early drills. Chukwu obviously can't play this year, but...damn. That's gonna hurt at some point.
