It seems as though it was only a matter of time. Following easy wins over Monmouth and Cornell over the weekend, the Syracuse Orange Field Hockey squad ascended to the No. 1 spot in the NFHCA Poll.
Syracuse earned 915 points and 15 first-place votes, which was enough to make them leapfrog the UConn Huskies, who had 894 points and 25 first-place votes. The two squads that played for the National Title last season are now the lone unbeatens left in Division 1, both at 11-0.
North Carolina (873 points, 8 first-place votes), Duke (751 points) and Virginia (715 points) round out the top five. All seven ACC squads are ranked in the Top 11. So, there's that too.
Speaking of, the No. 1 Orange will travel to take on the No. 11 Louisville Cardinals (7-4) on Friday.
The Orange are looking to match their best start since 2012 when the squad opened up the year at 12-0. SU went to the Final Four that season.
