No big surprise here. The undefeated Syracuse Orange field hockey team that came into last week as the No. 1 team in the nation will continue to be the No. 1 team in the nation in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll for the fourth-consecutive week.
Following a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over the Duke Blue Devils, the Orange finished the regular season 16-0 for the first time ever. The Orange received 36 of the 45 first place votes (886 points overall). They're followed by the only other undefeated team UConn (845 points, nine first-place votes) at No. 2. After that it's an ACC-fest with North Carolina (776 points), Duke (726 points) and Wake Forest (680 points) rounding out the top-five. All seven ACC programs are ranked within the Top 12.
Alma Fenne already picked up the coveted TNIAAM SU Athlete of the Week honor but the senior was also named ACC Offensive Player of the Week for her huge game-winning goal over Duke. It's the second-straight week she's earned the accolade. She and Roos Weers are tied for the team lead with 33 points apiece.
SU now heads to Charlotteville for the ACC Championship. They'll await the winner of 4-seed Virginia vs. 5-seed Duke and play them on Friday, November 6. Virginia and Duke will play this weekend along with No. 2 Wake vs. No. 7 BC and No. UNC vs. No. 6 Louisville.
