Syracuse Field Hockey Completes Perfect Regular Season With 1-0 Win Over Duke

The Orange end the regular season with a 16-0 record. Now comes the second season.

Blowouts. Close games. Second half-surges. Overtime games. You name the type of game and the No. 1 Syracuse Orange field hockey team won it during the 2015 regular season. The post-season will determine how we ultimately remember this squad but in a recent history full of great teams, this year's version is set up to be the best of them all.

They won one of those overtime game on Saturday, a 1-0 thriller over the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils in Durham. With the win, Syracuse finishes the season 16-0 for the first-time ever and 6-0 in ACC play, which is no small feat considering every ACC squad came into the week in the top eight.

Syracuse dominated the game in terms of shots, 13-2, but was unable to put one of them in the back of the net during regulation. In overtime for only the second time this season, the Orange made it 8:59 until the ever-dependable Alma Fenne scored her 13th goal of the year to ice the perfect run.

After the game, head coach Ange Bradley had high praise for her players and their accomplishments:

"I think this is something so special that none of these women will ever forget. To go 6-0 in the best conference in the country and  tested on a weekly basis against the best teams in the nation and be able to finish the regular season undefeated at 16-0 is special. We'll enjoy this for a day and then get back to scouting Syracuse and continue to improve. I just want to congratulate my coaching staff, support staff and an incredible group of women who've worked very hard and accomplished something special."

SU now awaits the winner of No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Virginia for the ACC Semifinal on Nov. 6, which will be televised on RSN and ESPN3.
