Over the weekend, the No. 1 Syracuse Orange Field Hockey team had two games against ranked opponents. They also picked up two more wins. And so, they're still the No. 1 Orange as they head into the final game of the regular season.
First up, the Orange drubbed No. 6 Wake Forest, 6-1, in a game that was all but a formality by halftime. Alma Fenne garnered a hat in the first half alone.
Sunday, the Orange hosted No. 19 Princeton on Senior Day. This time they took a 1-0 deficit into the half but rallied in the second half to churn out a 4-2 victory. Emma Russell and Roos Weers helped get the Orange back ahead towards the win.
For their efforts, Fenne and Weers earned ACC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors respectively.
SU remained in first place in the NFHCA Poll with 36 first-place votes, followed by No. 2 UConn (15-0), No. 3 North Carolina (13-1), No. 4 Duke (11-4) and No. 5 Virginia (12-3). The Orange and Blue Devils will close out the regular season in Durham on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN3.
From there, the ACC Tournament begins and judging by the rankings (every ACC team in within the top eight), it's going to be tough enough. From there it's on to the NCAA Tournament where the Orange will try to make good on this historic regular season.
