Seriously, we're running out of room on the bandwagon. Get on now while you can.
The No. 2 Syracuse Orange field hockey team came into their game Friday against the Monmouth Hawks undefeated and they will enter their next game undefeated as well. The Orange wore down the Hawks over the course of the game and ended up cruising to a 5-0 victory, their tenth on the year.
Scoring started slowly and it wasn't until the 27th minute when Laura Hurff got her first goal of the season on an assist from Roos Weers off a corner. SU took that 1-0 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second, scoring was hard to come by once again until Alma Fenne put SU up 2-0 in the 51st minute on a nice juke. Liza Sack made it 3-0 just a minute later with a diving shot off a pass from Alyssa Manley. SU converted another corner into a Lies Lagerweij to make it 4-0 and then Alma Fenne finished off the scoring a short time later.
Despite not turning up the scoring heat until late, the fact that SU out-shot Monmouth 29-1 told the story. It was all just a matter of time.
Not much time to savor this victory as the Orange will host the Cornell Big Red (4-3) on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Big Red host Columbia on Saturday so they'll be playing back-to-back games this weekend. That doesn't bode well for their chances to hand SU their first loss of the season.
