Your Syracuse Orange (10-4) (1-0) get the second leg of a two-game road trip this evening, heading down to Atlanta to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (9-4) (0-1). The contest begins at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU (check your provider's channel guide for where that may be for you).
After a terrifyingly close 68-66 victory over Virginia Tech this past Saturday, Syracuse finds itself 1-0 in ACC play. Georgia Tech, on the other hand, lost a double-overtime game to a very good Notre Dame team, 83-76 on the same afternoon to drop to 0-1 in the conference. Both schools would obviously love a victory here. As you might recall, the Yellow Jackets managed to pull the upset over Syracuse at the Carrier Dome last season, winning a 67-62 rock fight that we'd all prefer to forget.
The Yellow Jackets are led by coach Brian Gregory, now in his fourth year at the school. Tech is 52-56 during this tenure, finishing in the bottom portion of the ACC so far and never making the postseason. His best mark was a 16-15 finish back in 2012-13. However, this season already looks better than past ones after a decent non-conference record and a strong effort against the Fighting Irish this past weekend.
Tech's better this year, in part, because of two stellar transfers. Charles Mitchell (Maryland) and Demarco Cox (Mississippi) have created a formidable tandem on the boards, and have made the middle of the floor their strength. Unfortunately for the team, however, they struggle to shoot from anywhere else on the floor. If you thought Syracuse struggled taking jumpers (and they do), the 'Jackets do even more so. So yeah... expect a "high-scoring" affair.
