Coaching Rumors: Is Syracuse's George McDonald Headed to Florida?

Some late-night murmurs could be telling us that George McDonald's tenure at Syracuse is over.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Let me start by stating that this is ALL rumor at the moment, and absolutely nothing is confirmed. However, the Gator Fanatic and Fox Sports' In All Kinds of Weather (Florida blog) have been mentioning the possibility that Syracuse's George McDonald could be headed to the University of Florida to take over as wide receivers coach. Obviously this would be less than surprising for Orange fans after McDonald's mid-season demotion, but still, it could have some ripple effects for SU football -- especially in terms of its 2015 recruiting class.

As new Florida head coach Jim McElwain builds out his coaching staff, the addition of McDonald (a seasoned wide receivers coach) would make sense. He obviously has great South Florida ties, and that could be a huge boost for a UF squad that has some work to do in terms of their upcoming recruiting class. He and McElwain have never worked together, but there are links to Randy Shannon (new linebackers coach).

Again, there is nothing truly confirmed here at all. But there's enough talk that it's worth exploring/discussing amongst ourselves. We knew this could happen. We just hoped it wouldn't/won't. Let's see what happens next...
