Syracuse Bracketology: Orange Still 'In' According to Most Experts

The Orange are hanging by the skin of their Bracketology teeth when it comes to the late-week updates.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange men's basketball team hasn't played themselves out of a NCAA Tournament bid just yet, according to ESPN's Joe Lunardi, SB Nation's Chris Dobbertean and Syracuse.com's Patrick Stevens. All Bracketology experts have Syracuse earning one of the final at-large berths into the field of 68.

Lunardi , Dobbertean and Stevens have SU (14-5, 5-1 ACC) as one of their "last four teams in." Currently, Lunardi has the Orange earning a No. 11 seed and playing the Colorado State Rams in the first round in Dayton, OH; Dobbertean has Jim Boehim's squad playing as a No. 11 seed against No. 11 George Washington Colonials; and Stevens has them as a No. 12 seed playing the No. 12 BYU Cougars.

Meanwhile, 'Cuse Nation may have a new "disloyal idiot" in CBS Sports' Jerry Palm. He doesn't have the Orange in the tournament, instead, he has SU just missing the big dance as one of the "first four out."

As of this posting, Syracuse has an RPI ranking of 56. That ranking probably will not be enough to get them into the tournament come March. (A RPI ranking in the mid-40s is where you usually want to be.) However, thanks to there being a slew of mediocre teams the Orange are still in this thing.

Obviously, the Orange could help their RPI a lot if they are able to pull off an upset in Chapel Hill on Monday night. Syracuse's biggest no-no coming up is not losing to either Virginia Tech or Boston College.

SU Next 5 Opponents Record RPI
Miami 12-5 57
At North Carolina 15-4 12
Virginia Tech 8-9 234
At Pittsburgh 13-6 67
At Boston College 8-9 133
