I've let it be known on this site many times that although I am required by law to love and cherish Syracuse Orange basketball above all else, I am first and foremost a football fan. As such, my hopes and dreams have been pinned to a program that has, since I started caring about it in 1996, often let me down.
Still, I have hope. The quintessential force driving all sports fandom. I have a feeling deep down that tells me somehow, someway, there will come a day when Syracuse Football rises to the upper levels of college football and holds high a trophy that signifies it's greatness above all others evermore.
Crazy. I know. But the truth is, I would trade quite a bit SU Basketball success to see SU Football become a dominant program. Sacrilege, perhaps. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
So if you were to ask me, what's the one thing I want to see come out of Syracuse Athletics before I shuffle loose this mortal coil, I would say that it has to be winning the College Football National Championship.
It sounds absurd. It sounds unlikely. It sounds far-fetched.
It's all I ask for. Is that so much?
But what about you? What's the one thing you need Syracuse University to do athletically before you kick the bucket? You've already got a National Title in basketball. Do you need another to secure yourself and your belief in Jim Boeheim?
Or would you rather see Syracuse Lacrosse re-ascend to the throne it so rightly deserves?
Or is your idea a bit more macro? Maybe you want to see Syracuse Athletics be considered the paragon of all that is great about university athletics, however one quantifies that?
Or maybe you just want to see Syracuse beat Duke in Cameron? Maybe your one thing is just one game. One victory.
Leave your answer in the comments below. No wrong answers, unless it involves Syracuse losing. Cause that's weird.
