Men's Soccer: We've Got the #5 Team in the Country!

Cuse rises in the rankings significantly after taking care of Virginia on Saturday.

Looks like the boys are going to keep rising in the polls as long as they keep winning. I was out of the loop for the weekend, so props to Sean for keeping the soccer train rolling. In that time, the men took down then #2 Virginia 1-0 at home in front of the second largest crowd in Syracuse history.

The win in and of itself was impressive and vaulted the squad to the #5 spot in the Top Drawer Soccer Rankings. They also moved up to No.4 in the RPI as well as four spots in the College Soccer News polls to #16. An eleven point differential between the polls seems quite odd no matter how you slice it and the NSCAA rankings aren't out yet today, but I wouldn't be surprised if the actual mark of the team right now is somewhere between the two.

The Orange have given up a total of one goal this season. Hard to believe, but it's true. The set piece Notre Dame converted on is legitimately the only goal of the year that this defense has conceded. Bono has eight clean sheets on the year in nine attempts. The defense is stout. The offense has been working set pieces quite well. Open play and possession are resulting in attempts. This team's got something going on.

Come on out tonight to join the ride. The Orange host the Colgate Raiders tonight at 7pm. Home game under the lights should hopefully bring the boys to 9-1-0.

EDIT: Looks like we're #9 in the Coaches Poll as well.
