RivalryTied 3-3

Current Streak: 1, Syracuse

First Meeting: The 1914 Notre Dame football team was coming off of a 48-6 whopping of the Carlisle Indian School. Syracuse put up a bit more of a fight but still fell to the mighty Irish, 20-0.

Last MeetingTHIS HAPPENED.

Head Coaches: SU: Scott Shafer (2nd Year, 9-7), Notre Dame: Brian Kelly (5th Year, 40-15)

Curious Connections: Syracuse's QB the last time they beat ND? Cam Dantley, son of Notre Dame basketball star Adrian Dantley. As for the current squad, there's quite a few coaching crossovers.SU assistant head coach Tim Daoust and Notre Dame assistant director of strength and conditioning Dave Andrews worked together at Cincinnati.SU offensive line coach Joe Adam was a student assistant for ND head coach Brian Kelly in 2003, Kelly’s last season at Grand Valley State. Scott Shafer and ND offensive line coach Harry Hiestand were on the same Illinois staff in 2004.

Last Year: Coming off of a National Championship Game appearance, the Irish took a step back, finishing the regular season 8-4 and then knocking off Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl for their ninth win on the season.

Last Game: The Irish took care of business against lowly Purdue, beating them 30-14 two weeks ago. A close halftime score opened up into an easier win in the second half. Technically-speaking, Central Michigan beat Purdue more dominantly, and we dominated CMU, so...

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds of Timelords": Everett Golson has been solid if not spectacular so far this season. The Heisman hopeful is 62-of-96 for 780 yards, seven TDs and no INTs. The main recipient of his good fortune has been William Fuller, who has 225 yards and three scores.

If Syracuse Wins: It would be SU’s first win against a top ten team since the Orange beat No. 8 Virginia Tech, 50-42, in 2002.

If Syracuse Loses: All of those Syracuse Fans who thought we'd be 3-1 by this Sunday (which was most of us) will be severely disappointed and concerned and depressed and sad.

Fun Fact: Syracuse has a history of beating Notre Dame on a neutral field. SU beat the Irish 14-7 at Yankee Stadium in 1963. So that's something, right?
