QB
As usual, Terrel Hunt worked with the 1st team, Mitch Kimble worked with the 2nd team and A.J. Long & Austin Wilson split reps with the 3rd Team.
WR
Shafer is very excited about freshman Jamal Custis: "Jamal Custis is raw, a young guy out there. But it’s hard to teach that 6-foot-6, 235 (pounds), and he can run. I’m excited about him."
Freshman WR Steve Ishmael says he's getting comfortable in the position and is getting good advice from Jeremiah Kobena on how to keep up.
Senior WR Jarrod West is looking to put a decent 2013 behind him for a great 2014:
"I don't think I played bad," West said, "but I definitely know I have more in me."
TE
When asked about good freshmen, Shafer talked at length about Adly Enoicy.
"Adly Enoicy is one of the sharpest kids I’ve been around in a long time. He’s picked things up extremely well, been able to move from different positions — inside, outside. We’ve been pleased with him."
OL
Nick Robinson has returned to find himself caught in a fight to reclaim his starting gig. "Competition is only going to help all of us. We don't know who the starting lineup is right now."
DL
Eric Crume is taking it easy as he recovers from knee surgery in the off-season. Shafer said the team is "trying to get his quadriceps back before we go full-go with him with too many reps."
LB
Walk-on junior LB Hernz Laguerre has joined camp after initially being asked not to attend. A spot opened up after Franklin Santos quit the team.
DB
Joey Nassib, cousin of Ryan, separated his shoulder during practice and will be out indefinitely. Shafer called him a "tough little cowboy" and said he'd probably want to be back three days before he's allowed. We'll see.
Meanwhile, Franklin Santos has left the team for personal reasons. The walk-on saw action in two games last season.
Perhaps precipitated by either the loss of Santos or Nassib or both, sophomore Eric Winfield has moved from WR to DB.
Shafer praised freshman Rodney Williams: "You guys are going to like this guy. You guys are going to like this guy."
Durell Eskridge had a nice day, picking two interceptions during practice.
ST
Shafer mentioned that while Brisly Estime will see action on punt returns, Ritchey Desir is still the No. 1 guy. The team may trot our two punt returners against Villanova.
Riley Dixon was holding for Ryan Norton while Darius Kelly held for the back-up kickers.
