The coming of August marks a few things. Official reporting dates, two-a-days and preseason training camps for the fall sports.
As humans, we have to rank everything under the sun.
Since those two things tend to coincide when it comes to sports, we have the annual emergence of preseason rankings.
Men's Soccer has three main rankings that occur throughout the year, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) which is the equivalent of the Coaches Poll, College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer, which are independent rankings. Two of the three have come out and Syracuse is just on the outside looking in.
The NSCAA has the Orange at 38th, in the others receiving votes category. College Soccer News has them in the Others Receiving Votes, but doesn't note how many votes were given, so we'll just have to go with that.
Overall it's not a bad place to be for the team, as they're returning a good number of players from a young, scrappy team that showed flashes of brilliance. Last year the squad took down Duke on the road, and edged nationally ranked UConn and Clemson while learning the ropes. The return of most of the squad, as well as a very solid recruiting class should lead to good things for the Orange and a move into the Top 25 at some point this season.
The Men's Soccer team is back on campus and training, with their first preseason match against Hartwick scheduled for this Saturday at 7pm, up at the soccer stadium.
