It’s the news you’ve all been waiting for.
Syracuse football is back.
Thursday marks the final day of July, the final month without college football. If you needed any reminder that the slow news days of summer were coming to an end – well – there you go.
Syracuse training camp kicks off on Saturday afternoon with Scott Shafer’s press conference and the first practice, SU Athletics announced this week.
As in previous years, practices are closed to fans. If you’re looking to see the team in action, circle Aug. 9 on your calendars. (Sidenote: Do people still own calendars and use them to circle dates?) Syracuse will hold its annual Orange Fan Fest that Saturday from 3-7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Fans can watch practice beginning at 4:30 and get autographs afterwards.
For the third straight season, Syracuse will head north to Fort Drum to incorporate military workouts and discipline into their training regimen. The Orange will be at the military base from Aug. 12 through Aug. 15.
After coming back to campus, the Orange will have three "two-a-days" -- on the 16th, 19th and 23rd. That equals the number of two-a-days from last season.
If there are specific players or coaches you would like to hear from, send them my way. I’ll be back up in Syracuse by mid-August.
And until then, harden your noses, lock the doors and put that chip back on your shoulder. Football season is back.
