Get To Know Your Orange Man -- #6 WR Corey Cooper

Academic issues in the rearview mirror, Corey Cooper is ready to contribute for Syracuse. Let's get to know him.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Corey Cooper

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: Freshman

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 198

Hometown: Raleigh, NC

High School: Millbrook

2013 Stats: The top-rated recruit in Syracuse's 2013 class, Cooper did not qualify academically and spent the fall semester at Jireh Prep in North Carolina. In 2012, he caught 41 balls for 461 yards and six touchdowns at Millbrook.

2014 Projections: George McDonald suggested in April that Cooper might redshirt.

How'd He Get Here: Before committing to Syracuse, Cooper was offered by a laundry list of schools -- most notably Louisville, Miami, Oklahoma State, and South Carolina. McDonald lured him in.

What'd Recruiting Sites Say: Three stars from Rivals and Scout.

Money Quote: On his experience at Jireh Prep:

"At first I was mad that I couldn't come in with the 2013 class. As prep school went along, I was just saying how blessed I was because [offensive coordinator] Coach McGarrah, he knew so much about the game...I guess God sent me there just to get coached by him, so I could be ready for Syracuse."

Links Of Wonder: Cooper was, at one point, committed to Louisville, but eventually decommitted. Good call, Coop.

Twitterfeed: @_cjCooper1

Tweet Of Wonder: He likes to think.

What Does Shafer McDonald Think Of Him: To the Daily Orange in April:

"He's just another freshman battling. The biggest thing that we want is we always want competition, so a guy like him -- just like A.J. (Long) -- he's putting himself in a great position where he can come back in fall camp ready to compete."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Cooper's high school, Millbrook, is in the same school system (the Wake Public County School System) as Needham B. Broughton High School, of which Pete Maravich is an alumnus.
