Get To Know Your Orange Man - #48 K Cole Murphy

This California kicker is a preferred walk-on, hoping to earn a scholarship by next year. Let's get to know him.

Via Facebook

Name: Cole Murphy

Position: Kicker

Year: Freshman

Height: 6'3"

Weight: 194

Hometown: Castaic, CA

High School: Valencia

2013 Stats: He averaged 42.6 yards per punt during his senior year in high school. He also had 57 touchbacks and hit 6-of-9 field goals.

2014 Projections: This preferred walk-on is coming into an interesting position. Given how last year went for Syracuse's kickers, he may just get a chance to show us what he can do.

How'd He Get Here: He said no to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. There was also interest from Iowa, but he did not feel the same way. When he got a call from Syracuse special teams quality control coach Chris Gould, though, he perked up.

What'd Recruiting Sites Say: They were silent on the matter.

Money QuoteAfter Gould called, expressing Syracuse's interest:

I instantly looked up Syracuse online. I looked up the maps and did everything I could just to find out what the school is about, where it is and just kind of familiarize myself with it.

I doubt your handy dandy maps told you things like "it's hardnosed," and "there's a lot of effing snow," but you get an A+ for effort, Cole!

Links Of Wonder: Poor kid forgot Syracuse was on the east coast for a hot second when he returned coach Gould's call at 9PM local time. Endearing story about his recruitment, though. Read it.

Tweets Of Wonder: His feed is full of RTs and "I love my girlfriend." That's cute and all, but we were hoping for something more than that. He left me no choice but to post what I consider to be his most enjoyable, recent retweet. #SorryNotSorry #Dempsey'd #SoccerGuysAreHot

What Does Shafer Think Of Him: Uhhh, you know, next man in?

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: He's related to Robert Fish (cousin), who played for the Atlanta Braves.

Let's Get A Good Look Atcha:
